The city of Punta Arenas, Chile, is the last sizable settlement in the world before reaching the barren continent of Antarctica. Home to more than 100,000 inhabitants, Punta Arenas has become a popular destination for travelers from all regions of the globe.

Punta Arenas is the gateway to the southern end of South America, often referred to as “the end of the world.” The actual southernmost city in the world, Puerto Williams, is just a quick flight away with Aerovias DAP –– or by ship, with regular ferries during the year.

Despite the isolation of the city located 1,354 miles away from the Chilean capital of Santiago, fares to the island are on a downward trend. LATAM Airlines’ least expensive flights from Miami to Punta Arenas were as high as $1,313 the round-trip just 55 days ago, according to Google Flights.

However, these fares are down roughly 35.8% since then. Now, flights are available from as little as $842 round-trip as of January 13th, 2020, with flights at this price available on multiple dates beginning early February and onwards.

Deal Details:

Arrival City: Punta Arenas, Chile (PUQ)

If you prefer to save even more, however, you can book a ticket with LATAM to their Santiago hub and then book a separate flight to Punta Arenas on one of Chile’s low-cost airlines. If you opt to go that route, you can save up to $56, while also having the possibility of visiting Santiago, Chile.

At the moment, JetSMART, a low-cost carrier based in Chile, is offering flights from Santiago to Punta Arenas starting from $37.48 round-trip. Alternatively, SKY Airline, another low-cost carrier, is offering flights on this route from $42.52 round-trip.

LATAM, meanwhile, charges CLP29.122 to book the flights, but only if you book using Google Flights or similar sites. This equates to around $40 USD. LATAM’s flights do not allow for any hand luggage, while JetSMART does allow passengers to travel with hand luggage, even when booking the least expensive fare.

When traveling on these low-cost carriers, it is important to be aware of the different ticket/fare restrictions. Many low-cost carriers sell very restrictive fares.
