The First Round of Festival Line-Ups Are Out and They’re Unbelievable

We’re just days into 2020, and already, this year’s festival season is shaping up to be one of the best in recent years. While the majority of festivals, including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and The Governor’s Ball, don’t typically release their line-ups until March, a handful of major music festival line-ups have already dropped. As of January 7th, festival line-ups for Coachella, Beale Street, Bonnaroo, and BottleRock have already been released. From Coachella to Beale Street, festival line-ups for 2020 are packed with big-name performers spanning many genres. With the first wave of festival line-ups released, here’s what festival-goers need to know before deciding on which festival to attend this year.

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2020 Line-Up

The first major music festival of the year, Coachella welcomes 250,000 festival-goers over two weekends in mid-April. Though this hasn’t always been the case, Coachella is often viewed as the premier music festival in the United States. This is thanks in part to the rise of internet influencers that flock to Indio Valley for the festival. However, Coachella’s recent surge in popularity has also made the festival one of the pricer tickets on the market. Still, the least expensive pass to experience the festival, which is priced at $429, has already sold out just a few weeks after it was first made available. The insanely quick rate at which Coachella passes sold out is likely due to this year’s line-up.

Coachella 2020 features a line-up spanning numerous genres and decades. Though Coachella is known for consistently featuring star-studded line-ups, this year’s line-up is especially packed with big names. Some of the performers taking to the stage at Coachella 2020 include 21 Savage, Travis Scott, City Girls, Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, Flume, Snail Mail, Thom Yorke, Frank Ocean, Lil Nas X, Lana Del Rey, and Joji among many other big-name performers.

While passes have already sold out, those looking to get their hands on a pass to the festival can join the waitlist. There is a waitlist for each weekend. Should tickets become available, those on the waitlist may have the option to purchase passes to the popular festival.

Beale Street Music Festival 2020 Partial Line-Up

A much smaller festival compared to Coachella, Beale Street Music Festival is somewhat of a hidden gem. Each year, crowds flock to the Mississippi Riverfront near Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee, to enjoy a variety of performances. While Coachella features a line-up that is pop and hip-hop heavy, Beale Street Music Festival tends to stay close to its Southern roots hosting several blues, jazz, and bluegrass bands. However, the festival also welcomes popular rappers and rock artists.

Taking place from May 1st to May 3rd, this three-day festival is quite a bit more relaxed than Coachella and other popular festivals. During the day, festival-goers can enjoy a more laid-back atmosphere while once the evening rolls around, the crowd becomes far more energetic. Unfortunately, 1-day passes to the Beale Street Music Festival are no longer offered with 3-day passes priced from $129 per ticket. However, given that Memphis is a far less expensive destination than other cities hosting comparable festivals, frugal festival-goers should definitely consider Beale Street in 2020.

This year’s line-up features performers that include The Lumineers, Lil Wayne, Brittany Howard, The Avett Brothers, Three 6 Mafia, Portugal. The Man, Young Dolph, Mavis Staples, and Leon Bridges. However, that’s just the first round of performers with additional artists to be announced at a later date.

Hangout Music Fest 2020 Line-Up

Hangout Music Festival often attracts a younger and lively crowd looking to vibe-out to some of the biggest names in music. Hangout is held on the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama, with the festival grounds running parallel to the Gulf of Mexico. Hangout Music Festival is the perfect way to kick-off the summer.

Festival-goers can take advantage of discounted lodging at beachside hotels, condos, and vacation rentals. During the festival, attendees can purchase a shuttle pass to get to and from the festival in a timely and efficient manner. Once at the festival, Hangout offers an upbeat and energetic atmosphere. The festival also features local dining options, craft drinks, and a variety of other activities.

This year’s line-up features top pop, hip-hop, rap, and EDM artists including Post Malone, Billie Elish, Marshmellow, Lana Del Rey, Cage The Elephant, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, RL Grime, Doja Cat, Mt. Joy, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

BottleRock Napa Valley 2020 Line-Up

BottleRock Music Festival is held in Napa Valley and offers festival-goers a more laid-back and rustic environment. The festival’s line-up reflects this as well with a variety of indie, alternative, and folk performers in addition to bigger name performers.

BottleRock also offers festival-goers a more refined music festival food and drink scene. With the festival taking place in Napa Valley, it’s no surprise that BottleRock offers attendees the option to taste top wines as well as local brews. Plus, this year, Marriott Bonvoy American Express cardholders can purchase access to an exclusive VIP suite. The suite offers guests amenities that include VIP entry and viewing in addition to complimentary specialty cocktails, beer, and wine. That being said, this festival is a far cry from the campsites of Bonnaroo.

This year’s line-up includes The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Miley Cyrus, Khalid, The Avett Brothers, Janelle Monae, Local Natives, and Caamp

Bonnaroo 2020 Line-Up

Bonnaroo is about as close as one can get to a Woodstock like experience in 2020. Most festival-goers set up camp near the entrances to the festival grounds creating a unique and social atmosphere. The campgrounds feature individual town squares that offer campers dining and shopping options.

Once inside the festival, Bonnaroo boasts several stages that host popular performers spanning nearly every genre imaginable. The festival grounds also feature local fare, vendors selling signature cocktails, beer, and wine, shopping, and an area reserved for various social causes. Bonnaroo truly is Woodstock for the ’20s.

This year’s line-up includes numerous big-name performers as well as dozens of smaller indie performers. Major performers include Lizzo, Tool, Miley Cyrus, The 1975, Megan Thee Stallion, Flume, Jason Isbell, DaBaby, Nelly, Tame Impala, Lana Del Rey, and Vampire Weekend. Bonnaroo’s 2020 line-up is one of the few festivals that gives Coachella a run for its money.

2020’s First Festival Line-Ups – The Bottom Line

The first round of festival line-ups are out for 2020, and they’re packed full of big-name performers. While many festival-goers may wish to wait for the remaining festivals to release their line-ups, festivals like Coachella and BottleRock are already sold out with the only passes available on sites like StubHub.

If you’re considering attending earlier festivals like the ones listed in this post, you’ll want to start planning your festival experience sooner rather than later. These amazing line-ups are a double-edged sword for festival-goers. These start-studded line-ups only increase ticket sales for festivals, which means fewer tickets available for sale. To get the best deal on festival passes, you’ll want to purchase your pass before the end of the month to avoid paying more.
